Dr. Patil holds bachelor degree in Medicine and Surgery from Karnataka University Dharwad, and Masters in surgery from Mysore University. He has completed Surgical Oncology from Tata Memorial Hospital, Mumbai. He is the Chief Surgical oncologist in KCTRI.
A Visiting consultant to Royal Marsden Hospital London, 1988-89 and to the Nippon Dental Univeristy, Nigata, Japan in 1997. He was also a a visiting consultant to Chang Gung Memorial hospital, Taipei, Taiwan in 2001. He is a Hon. Surgical oncologist to SDM Cranio-Facial centre, Dharwad / India. He has a special interest in head and neck cancer and has more than 5,000 surgeries in this field over a period of 22 years. He has conducted 2 International live operative session workshops on oral cancer. Conducted 3 National and Several regional workshops in surgical oncology Symposium speaker on “Oral cancer in India” at 6th Asian congress on oral and maxillofacial surgery 2004, Tokyo, Japan. Invited speaker to UK for talk on Oral cancer. Managing a personal 100 bedded surgical care centre with all super specialty services Many papers presented in International and National Conferences on Head and Neck Onco-surgery.
His association with KCTRI needs a specific reference here. All the surgeries he has performed in KCTRI are without receiving any professional fees either from the patients or from the Institute. Each of these cases takes between 4 to 8 hours of operating time. He has done more than 2500 such cases in the last 22 years of free service. He has spent more than 15000 hours of time on operations alone excluding the time spent on other administrative work of the hospital.
